THE FLY OF HONOUR COLLECTION
This collection is crafted to activate on two levels:
I. To celebrate and recognize women who dare to stand out from the crowd.
II. As an homage to Hilma af Klint, Swedish artist and pioneer of abstract art, to mark 75 years since her ascension to higher realms.
MORE THAN A WOMAN - MORE THAN JUST FASHION
Unique, tough and feminine, The Fly Of Honour woman demands the best from herself - and others - and is never afraid to fly in the face of tradition.
This collection celebrates the true power of femininity - beauty, resilience and the generosity to lift up others as we make our way through the journey of life.
ABOUT THE FLY OF HONOUR DESIGN
The design is a symbolic reinterpretation of the Egyptian Golden Fly of Valour, seen through the lens of Hilma af Klint’s genius and creative spirit - a true pioneer of Western abstract art.
Hilma af Klint, a Swedish painter, attributed the origins of her paintings to an external, channelled spirit, not to her own creativity. This is the basis of my own philosophy - an ethos which is evident in each and every one of my designs.
The design harnesses the power of circles and triangle shaped stairs in order to incorporate symbols of true self, progress and movement into each piece.
Each piece has its base in the body of a fly - an ancient symbolism rarely recognized in the modern world. In Ancient Egypt, The Golden Fly was a prestigious award used to recognize extreme bravery and persistence in battle and victory over the enemy.
Rather than dirty or annoying, the fly was seen as a vital part of the life cycle and was known for its tenacity and persistence. These days, the fly still plays an important role in protecting our environment.
Back in a time when The Golden Fly was largely a military honour, it’s curious to know that a fly of valour was also often awarded to women - although the origins of the reasons behind this are unclear.
